Early Life and Times of Adam Loeber

· Adam Loeber,Adam,Loeber,Community

New York City attorney Adam Loeber didn’t always live in New York – or the United States for that matter. He was born in Munich, then West Germany, in 1970. His early life was comfortable. His father was a dentist and his mother an accountant for a local insurance company, so they were able to provide a comfortable home for him and his siblings.

Adam’s early life was only dimmed somewhat by the fear and tension that gripped Germany during the political turmoil of the 1970s and 1980s. Though he was never in any danger, West and East Germany were not amicable neighbors, and the threat of a Soviet invasion made every West German family at least somewhat nervous about the news headlines. While it influenced how Adam views the world today, it ultimately did not dim his worldview or early life.

Adam attended high school in Germany, where he achieved excellent marks in classes and planned to attend a prestigious German University. His plans changed, however, when he decided to apply to Columbia University on a whim. Not only did Columbia accept him to their college, but they also provided him with a full scholarship for merit, as well.

Moving to the U.S. was a tough transition for Adam, although it was made easier because he was already fluent in English. His grandfather was English, so his parents both taught Adam in a bilingual home. Getting over the culture shock, however, Adam made fast friends with his peers, even meeting his future wife Mary in a history course they both shared.
